How To Put Your Vehicle in Storage
Storing you car is not something that is terribly difficult, however, there are some items you want to consider as part of the process. You want to consider items like the duration of the
storage rental, indoor or outdoor storage, and the time of year you are storing your vehicle. Your vehicle is important to you and it is important to us. Think about some of the following suggestions if you are planning to store your vehicle in a
storage facility.
First, how long do you anticipate storing your vehicle? If you are going to have the car in storage for quite a while, then you will want a fuel stabilizer to be added to the fuel tank upon final arrival in your storage unit. There is no reason your fuel should go bad due to the length of time you are storing your vehicle. Ideally, you want to be able to fire up your car, truck, or van and drive away as needed.
Second, be aware of the items you want to consider based on whether your vehicle is stored indoors or your vehicle is stored outdoors. Also, if the vehicle is outside, is it covered? If you car is indoors, you can go with the fuel stabilizer mentioned above, park your car, take out the keys, shut the door, lock it, and walk away. If it is outside, then you want to consider a cover for your car, sun shades for the windows, and the possibility of maximum space between yourself and the next closest vehicle. You also want to make sure your windows are rolled up and you have removed any of your valuables from your vehicle.
Third, what time of year are you storing your vehicle? Here's where this is important. If you are storing in the winter, then you want to think about fuel stabilizer and battery maintenance. If you are storing during the spring, you have issues like high winds and higher volume of rain. Again, it would be a good idea to cover your vehicle. If it is summer, then consider the sun shields. You get the idea.
One last
storage tip bonus item, think about how often you will come and get your vehicle. If you are going to be using your car on a daily basis, then you will want a facility that is easy to access. You want to have 24 x 7 access. Hopefully you are in a fenced and secured facility, so you will also need a code for accessing the facility grounds. These items are not as important if your vehicle is going to sit for a while, but we would argue they are still important nonetheless.
